Dr. Kenney’s 3 favorite benefits of cryotherapy

Cryotherapy continues to grow in popularity throughout the country due to the many benefits it offers.  At Mile High Cryotherapy our clients continue to use this treatment to benefit everything from pain and stress relief to hormone function and better sleep.  Today I would like to share my 3 personal favorite benefits of cryotherapy.

  1. Athletic recovery.  Being in my early 40’s but still training like I’m in my early 20’s is often an interesting mix for my body.  Though I hate to admit it, I simply don’t recover as quickly as I used to.  Cryotherapy treatments dramatically boost my recovery.  As an example, my last race had me running up and then down a mountain for a total of 8 hours.  This left my knees and joints in great pain and I was hobbling around significantly afterwards.  The next morning, I did a single, 3-minute session of cryotherapy and stepped out of the cryo-sauna already about 90% improved.  I have run many races like that and normally I would limp around for 4-7 days in that manner.  Cryotherapy made sure that didn’t happen and it’s a part of my pre and post-race routine now.
  2. Injury recovery. In January I felt a “pop” in my left knee while running.  Try as I might this was not something that I was able to “walk off.”  Instantly my knee swelled, and my mobility was limited.  My first stop was Mile High Cryotherapy and I did 3 sessions a week for 2 weeks.  After 2 weeks my knee was moving at almost 100% and after a month I was running again with no issues.  I had never injured my knee like this before and honestly the way it felt initially, I thought my running career was over.  With cryotherapy treatments, this was not the case and I am once again able to do what I love.  I have also used it for soft tissue injuries involving my wrist and elbows with remarkable success.
  3. General health. I am a big proponent of regular maintenance when it comes to health and cryotherapy is a huge part of my ongoing routine.  I usually do a 3-minute cryotherapy treatment about once per week and notice that my workouts are better, my sleep is improved, my skin looks better and my energy level (which is never low) is even higher.  Essentially cryotherapy gives me a boost that helps my body perform better and so I stick with it.
